What is food Traceability?

Traceability is the ability to trace all processes from procurement of raw materials to production, consumption and necessary information such as manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors is recorded. This information is tracked in all processes from procurement of raw materials and parts to machining, assembly, distribution, and sales to ensure that their histories can be traced. Beside that it also clarifies that where the food was produced and was produced by whom. Due to improving product quality and rising in food safety awareness in recent years, traceability is required in many international market and retail chain. Traceability now is not only seem as general trend but also seem as the best solution for food poisoning, counterfeit product, unknown goods,…

Benefits from Traceability

For business

Improved Operational Efficiency

Food traceability leads to a better understanding of your business processes from start to finish. And, anytime you have a wider understanding of what’s happening within your organization, this naturally leads to improved operational efficiency.

This improved operational efficiency means better communication with suppliers, enhanced understanding of internal processes, and a more accurate picture of what your customers want.

Transparent Marketing

With a meticulous food traceability system in place, you can confidently improve your marketing messaging. For example, you can create a “farm-to-table” marketing campaign that positions your organization as a company that cares about careful sourcing and safe production. Or, perhaps, you could develop a campaign around the importance of supporting local farms. Depending on the factors in play, you can get creative.

Better Credibility

In today’s marketplace, consumers are hyper-aware of things like food allergies and sustainable processes. As such, they want transparency from the companies with which they choose to do business.

With a food traceability initiative in place, you can enhance your credibility with your target market. This will go a long way toward establishing a solid reputation and differentiating your brand from the competition.

Lower Risk of Legal Issues

Should your company end up in a legal battle with customers or supply chain partners based on some issue related to food safety or compliance, a comprehensive food traceability program can help your case by providing step-by-step visibility of what actually happened.

On a related note, tracking processes could help you to demonstrate to an insurance provider that you’re better managing your business, which results in reduced risk. This could eventually allow you to lower insurance premiums.

Timely Error Prevention

One of the biggest problems for food companies is that they often waste tons of resources while trying to identify a quality control issue. Fortunately, 99 percent of these resources can be saved with access to better error prevention technology – i.e., food traceability technology.

For government

In 2020, Viet Nam will announce a clearer rule for traceability. Thus, the government will create national information traceability gate that they could access all the business traceability information. So it will improve government management such as:

Managing the origin of product in markets.

Prevention from counterfeit product or unknown goods.

For Customer

Consumers can use smartphone to trace the origin of the product through QR stamp to have all the informations of the product.

Consumers can define which food is safe, where it was made,… to protect themself and their family

Traceability process

Step 1: Collecting business information such as: Company information, connecting information, the scale of product.

Step 2: investigating the process of making product. It will have a form to investigate the standard and basing on it to set up a traceability process for each product, each supply chain.

Step 3: Uniting the process, creating an account in the system.

Step 4: Designing QR code as business requirement, printing valid stamp. As usual, a standard stamp would have QR code, business information and information of traceability company to make sure the traceability was made by the third side.
